Marjolijn Bol is Associate Professor in the Department of History and Art History and PI of the DURARE project. Her research interests focus on the interdependence of the history of art with the history of materials, techniques and knowledge. She is a member of the editorial board of Studies in Art and Materiality (Brill), a peer-reviewed book series dedicated to innovative scholarship about the relation between art, materials, and making and of Art Matters, an international journal for Technical Art History.

Grace Kim-Butler is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of History and Art History. Working in cultural anthropology and science and technology studies, she studies how scientists negotiate the durability, sustainability, and authenticity of material culture. Her DURARE project examines how scientists today develop technologies for restoring art and cultural heritage. Grace received her PhD in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology, and Society (HASTS) from MIT in 2019.

Jan van Daal joined the DURARE team in September 2020. Jan obtained his MSc in Technical Art History from the University of Amsterdam in 2019. He has worked on diverse topics, ranging from the manufacture of Romano-Egyptian mummy portraits to art materials in Early Modern Dutch pharmacology. The materials and techniques that underlie the production of cultural heritage objects are the red thread that tie Jan’s wide array of interests together.

Henrike Scholten is a PhD candidate at Utrecht University, as well as a practicing visual artist. She obtained her BA in Fine Art at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen, with an exchange period in Genoa (Italy). She obtained her ReMa in Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Groningen. Her academic research focusses on the material and experiential dimensions of artistic technique, especially as it relates to processes of artistic education.

Clara Mikellides De Chiaro is a project assistant for the DURARE team. She is a Masters student at Universiteit van Amsterdam following the Conservation and Restoration program, specializing in Technical Art History. She is in the Program Committee for Conservation and Restoration. A role focused on aiding the representation of students in the formation and curation of the Conservation and Restoration curriculum. Her future ambitions include researching the intersections between chemistry and art history, with a focus on technical art historical perspectives.
